HP Pavilion dv7-1025nr Laptop

Review Source: CNET.com
Editor's rating: 7.5
Good: Refined Pavilion design; "frameless" display bezel enhances screen's appearance; high-end Centrino 2 components result in great multimedia performance; touch pad On/Off button; light-touch media controls; dual headphone jacks; HDMI and eSATA ports.
Bad: Glossy finish easily picks up fingerprints; metallic touch pad provides too much drag; fixed configuration lacks Bluetooth and Blu-ray; frame rates adequate for casual gaming only.
Bottom line: We recommend the eye-catching, media-friendly HP Pavilion dv7-1025nr desktop replacement for students who want a laptop that doubles as an entertainment center. Gateway, however, has a slightly cheaper 17-inch model that's better suited to gamers.

Summary: Great desktop replacement no complaints after 4 months
by lostzero - December 22, 2008
Pros: Awesome sharp display, sleek and very eye appealing notebook. Has plenty of horse power to play games, movies, programs. I opted to replace Vista Home with Server 2008 Enterprise 64 Bit, everything works like a charm with no problems.
Cons: As in the review the metallic finish leaves finger prints easily, however it comes with a cleaning cloth.

Great desktop replacement for the money and should last several years, plus after around 1.5-2 years you can upgrade the ram to 8GBs to extend the life of the notebook.

Summary: Buyer Beware - Bait & Switch
by 3ducks - September 25, 2008
Pros: The screen size is nice, we upgraded from a 15". Love the 10 key. Photoshop 6 is included.
Cons: Was victim of bait & switch. Researched on HP's website. Found same model # at Best Buy. Got it home, no TV tuner. HP won't stand by it. Vista 64 hates all of my old programs including my Palm TX. Nightmare getting network set up w/ it too.

HP, in my opinion, is using fraudulent practices to sell their computers. They told us Best Buy ordered this laptop without the tuner. If that is the case, then the model # should not be the same. Another local store customizes their laptiops often but HP sells them under different model #'s to avoid this problem. My opinion, same model # should be same product in store, as on HPs site. We spent 1 hour on call waiting and 1 hour arguing and was told tough and we're wasting our time. They will NOT do anything. They told us we should have researched it on Best Buys website as that said the tuner was not included. Maybe they should make that disclaimer on their own website "Items are not as they appear. Research at third party web-site as we only tell you what we want you to know"

A customer shouldn't have to go line by line to make sure the model # they buy in the store has everything the same model # has on HPs website. Best Buy offered an external tuner at 1/2 price because even their salesman looked up the specs on HPs site and told us it had a tuner.

Vista 64 is a nightmare so far. I have yet to have an hour without complications in programs, network or anything I used to have on my old computer. I knew Vista was trouble going in though so I was prepared for that. I never expected the get rolled by HP though. What a shame. I was a loyal customer and even planned on trading in my Palm for their Ipaq. Now that i understand what kind of company they are I will stay far away.

Buyer beware. Make the sales rep go line by line and open your box in store to make sure it matches. Do NOT trust this company will give you what they advertise. Do NOT go by model #'s as they mean nothing either. Better yet, find another brand. If I can't trust them on this, heaven help me if I ever need anything from them in the future.

Summary: Wait and see
by cahomsy - September 11, 2008
Pros: I am getting a replacement for this pathetic dv8628nr finally!
Cons: I'm gonna wait and see how this one compares to the functionality of this boat anchor.

I purchased a Pavillion dv9628nr from Best Buy last November, big mistake. Really, big mistake. I have been having nothing but trouble with the video card and motherboard. I've sent it back to HP on three occasions now, each time the hard drive was wiped and it was shipped back to me. Like I don't have the knowledge of twenty five plus years of computing to do it myself. It'll run fine for about a month and then I start getting blue screens in Vista! I've also checked the error log files and to my astonishment the blue screens are an accumulation of monthly errors totaling over one thousand less serious errors, per month. I guess after the error's accumulate to the point that Vista can't handle them any more it gives up. The heat build up under the keyboard on my dining room table has also discolored the finish of the table. It also get's so hot I can't keep this thing on my lap. I never have been entertained by this laptop, video performance is poor, even though it came with an HDTV tuner card, it couldn't find a signal if it's life was threatened with being drowned in a bathtub. Other than casual games from the web or the ones you see at the store that are buy one get five free, that are written for Windows 98 and before, roflmao. Ok, enough whining, I finally got HP to admit there's a problem and they will be sending me one of these as a replacement. Hopefully I won't be having these same problems. So it'll be a wait and see on my part.
