Good:
Faster performance than other laptops in the same price range; 4GB of RAM; big 320GB hard drive; HDMI output, touch-sensitive media controls.
Bad:
Bulkier than Dell's 15-inch XPS and Inspiron models; merely average battery life.
Bottom line:
The Dell Studio S1535-125B impresses us with its leading performance in the sub-$1,000 category, thanks in large part to a speedy Intel CPU and generous memory allotment. Striking a fine balance between Dell's XPS and Inspiron lines, we recommend this well-rounded 15-inch laptop for students and home users alike.

Summary: Not worth the Trouble :( or gas money for repairs ! by vgflorida - November 15, 2008 Pros: When it worked ..it was great. Nice size, long battery time, good screen. BOTH of them .. had to replace twice in one month. Cons: Didn't know until I called Dell for support the first time, they cannot help and will tell you to call Best Buy for service. Two new Studio's and both bad. Had to use old Sony or Blackberry for emails, etc. |

I had a Sony Vaio laptop for about 5 years. Heard great things about Dell, so I finally got the Studio 1535. After a week had to take it back to Best Buy (also if you purchase a Dell from Best Buy, Dell WILL NOT supply support, you MUST go back to Best Buy). Their diagnostics found bad hardware. They exchanged it for a new 1535. Two weeks later, Windows would NOT load, couldn't even go to an earlier restore date. Back to Best Buy, their diagnostics show a serious problems with the Windows Vista software. They are going to fix it ... and now I'll have to make another 30 min. drive to pick it up. Very frustrating. I wish I would have bought an Apple .... the commericals are TRUE!

Summary: Did half these people even buy this computer? by SBITS - November 7, 2008 Pros: Nicely built and Fast. Cons: None that I could see. Sorry to all the bashers of Dell out there. |

My Brother got one of these and had me install some software for him. (I work in IT and have been for 28 years now) It's a nice computer. He loves it and brings it everywhere with him. (I'm jealous because it's faster than my Vostro Laptop)
Reading some of these posts it looks like some people haven't even bought the product or they are talking about another Dell Product?
I agree that Dell Support can be a pain, but I've learned how to talk with them.
(You really need to get to third level support before you find someone who knows what they are talking about. Honestly but that's true in any support structure)
(I was third level support at Intel for 16 years)
I think this is a Great Laptop and I would recommend it..
I don't have a clue what these other people are talking about? Maybe they don't like Michael Dell? OH well

Summary: Not all is what it seems by Zentilla - November 5, 2008 Pros: Runs pretty well. Nice graphics. Runs the games I put on it. Feels sturdy. Cons: Little sluggish on start up. Disk Drive keeps ejecting the disk. Called Dell Several times and keep getting told that I can't be helped at that time. Write e-mails telling me to call and in the end I'm mad and still have my problem |

Looks nice, but I would say go with something else. Because if you have a problem Dell won't help you. Just go with something else, you will be happier.

Summary: Streaming audo and video drop-outs by djelone - November 3, 2008 Pros: Looks nice. Good keyboard design. Cons: Latency caused by key device drivers causes drop-outs of streaming audio. Cnet should run DPC Latency checker as part of it's review process to see if a computer device drivers are going to cause a problem with streaming audio and video. |

Don't buy this computer if you want to use media. I returned mine for a full refund. Not suitable for DJ audio play.

Summary: Many problems in first month by jjhartman78 - October 26, 2008 Pros: LED backlight, many options, it looks good Cons: bad hard drive, doesnt wake up out of sleep mode sometimes, DVD drive randomly keeps trying to eject dvd, when no dvd is in drive. replacement parts are on backorder |
User Rating![]() 3 out of 10 |
So far, in the first month of ownership, i have called dell at least 5 times. They have done all kinds of updates, and the dvd drive is still trying to eject a nonexistant disk. they flashed bios, downloaded updates, etc. they had me run a diagnostic, and it found a problem with the hard drive. so far, i now have a refurbished HDD and a refurbished DVD drive on backorder, and they wont give me a new computer. they told me "this is not the normal level of dell quality" No kidding, give me a new computer, damnit!

Summary: AVOID: Defective Product from Best Buy by jvvanj - September 22, 2008 Pros: Good processing speed and nice display for the 5 days that it worked. Cons: Dead Screen found within 2 new laptops. |
User Rating![]() 2 out of 10 |
Major screen issues need to be looked into before these are sent out.
Shame on Best Buy and Dell for not handling these issues before these are sent out.
2 Dead screens:
1. Initial product delivered had a screen that was dead on arrival (pitch black). I called Dell tech support (listed as an option on in box flyer), but was told that they did not support the item. I had to take it to Best Buy. The Geek Squad told me the best thing to do was return it for a full refund and then reorder the whole thing again online. So that's what I did.
2. The new computer arrived and worked great for 5 days. No complaints. Until the screen went dead again!!!

Summary: Abysmal should be all in block CAPITALS by gerlong - September 5, 2008 Pros: The packing case Cons: I don't like the fact that it does not work.. The screen is almost total darkness.. I took delivery today .. |

I hate the mouse pad, feels like sandpaper underneath your finger, and is erratic in it's responses to finger movement .
I hate the fact that Dell technical support asked me to open up a machine that was just delivered .
I hate the fact that their next best option was to send a technician to by house, who would attempt to carry out a repair on the kitchen table ..
I hate the fact that all the options that Dell could offer had to be in compliance with THEIR PROCEDURES..... What about my procedures ????? .. Maybe I want my money ( that Dell has had for the past three weeks) refunded..
Maybe I need "think it all out again"

Summary: Avoid - Broken on Delivery, 21 Days to Replace by Hiker55 - September 3, 2008 Pros: High res screen (I upgraded) Better config then Inspiron Pricing compared to XPS Cons: Broken on arrival - after 10 minutes internal fan rubbing Told it could take up to 21 business days to replace (total of 1 1/2 months before I get a working computer) Housing is a bit much |
User Rating![]() 1 out of 10 |
The computer arrived after about 8 days after ordering. Upon turning on I saw a beautiful screen (upgrade if you can). The computer is a bit heavier then I would want if I was going to carry it around, but plan on using in the kitchen and working on the kitchen table as a second computer in the house. The housing is a bit much with the shiny plastic. Well, after about 10 minutes the fan started clicking (really loud). I called Dell support (asked me what was wrong and I help the phone up to the computer). They said they would process a replacement. After checking back now 6 days later to ask when I could expect the new computer, I was told that it could take up to 21 business days (add this to the 8 original days and we are at almost 30 working days). The rep (and manager) said there was nothing that they could do. My advice, go with a Mac. I will update more when I actually get a working version for more than 10 minutes)
